Hatching Eggs

Buying hatching eggs is a great way to increase the numbers of your flock, as well as perfect hatching techniques. We have found that bringing the hatching process to your children is one of the most exhilarating things your child will be involved in - it amazes them to hear the pipping, then seeing the little chicks break free from their shells. It also amazingly doesn't seem to faze them if a couple are unsuccessful - children I find accept the circle of life as it is, and it teaches them to respect life. (sorry, hippy rant over)

We offer 12 hatching eggs from our hybrid birds. They are likely to be warren x leghorn or warren x sussex, but I do keep a lot of cockerels in my hybrid pens and they have been known to jump and fly to get some "action"

We've added to the mix, Sussex hens, Rhode Island Red hens, and black jersey giant cockerels.

Fertile eggs don't really reach a point where they no longer become viable. However, unless hatched within the first week, they lose their "hatchibility" by approx 2% per day, although many people successfully hatch eggs that have been stored longer than this - I have heard of someone hatching a 3 month old egg - it was kept in a sort of stasis, and as soon as the heat set it off, the chick formed perfectly! Isn't nature clever!

I send out eggs that are the freshest and most likely to be viable. The will be clean but not yet washed. I have loads of eggs being laid daily that are most likely to be fertile, so I don't generally store them for more than a day - any older than that I will rock the cartons to prevent sticking.

You MUST candle the eggs at day 10. If you don't want to buy a candler (which are quite pricey) get a torch and simply turn the lights off. You will be able to see which eggs are fertile and which aren't. Disgard the infertile eggs.

Eggs are £15.50 per dozen plus postage to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. For other destinations, please contact me to arrange shipments.

Bantam Hatching Eggs

We now have some breeding bantams laying good fertile eggs.

At present I cannot guarantee colours - all my pekin bantams are in together until probably next year, but they are little adorable things no matter what colour!

We have 2 blue hens and one white and the cockerels are 1 x buff, 1 x white and 1 x splash. When I get a buff hen and a splash hen I'll split them into separate pens - until then the chicks will be a mixture of blue, splash and white.

Bantam eggs are £9 per half plus postage to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. For other destinations, please contact me to arrange shipments.
If you want more than 6 eggs per purchase, please add more than one to your cart - the postage should automatically combine for you.

Terms and conditions for hatching eggs

Ok - the ususal, I cannot guarantee the fertility of an egg once it has passed through the postal system, however I would recommend you candle them at 10 days, if you have lower than 65% let me know and I'll send you out some more eggs. This is unlikely to happen as my hens have several different cockerels to breed with, however nature will be unpredictable!

The eggs are sent securely wrapped, I will clean the egg but you will have to disinfect them yourself. Any breakages should be reported to Royal Mail for compensation, although I really do wrap them well!

I would advise letting the eggs settle for 24 hours before setting them in your incubator.

I wont replace eggs that are set under a broody hen - sorry.
